Research context
In the current market module the EU is represented by three geogrpahical aggrgates: EU-14, UK and EU-N13. EU equilibrium prices for the agri-food commodities are calculated for these three aggregated regions first, an then the equilibrium (market) prices are transmitted to the producer prices in th individual Member States within the geographical aggregates using a simple price margin approach. Furthermore, bilateral trade is only modelled within the three aggregated EU regional blocs and the rest of the world. Consequently, CAPRI does not capture bilateral trade between the individual EU Member states. Against this background the current project aims to develop a flexible aggregation method of EU Member States in dthe CAPRI marjet module. Member States should be groupes flexibly to form trade blocs in the CAPRI market module, introducing, at the same time, bilateral trade flows between the newly created trade blocs. From a policy analysis point of view, the model developments in this project should enable CAPRI modellers to group EU Member States in a way that is most suitable for the investigated policy scenario.
Aim and objective
The main objective of this specific contract is to implement a flexible approach for creating project specific trade blocs for the EU in the CAPRI market module. A written report should identify the optimal methodological approach for the technical implementation of the flexible regional grouping.
Main tasks
- Task 1: CAPRI database update
- Task 2: Methodological approach and technical implementation plan
- Task 3: Code implementation
- Task 4: Testing and merge to CAPRI trunk
